It has been a while since I have picked up my torch. I made my sister some jewelry for Christmas but that's about it for months now! I decided today that I was going to make myself something shiny and pretty. I have never made anything with "prongs" before so I thought I would give it a try.

I made some new brass stacking rings. I am so in love with them. I can't stand the picture I took though. It wasn't a nice day when I shot this... kinda grey. I don't know why it looks red. I don't think it's firescale.... but maybe it is and just shows up in the picture?

I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to taking pictures, but so far I like my results. Today I played with the custom setting and actually like how the pictures turned out. These are going into my shop today.

Looky what I just finished! I love it. Now, I need to take it outside and take some pics so I can post it on Etsy. I'm loving this ring a lot! I've got to find some more stones... this was my last one. I have some that are half the length, but the look is way cooler with the longer one. I have some necklaces I need to finish working on... but, truth be told, I get bored quickly and I don't want to finish them. I get super excited when I make something and always want to reproduce it but, once I do boredom sets in. I think the plan may be to only make one of a kind pieces. Is this a sign of a simple mind or a complex one? hmmmm......

I have a big girl full time job. This makes me happy and bummed at the same time. I am very lucky to have the amazing job that I have but it leaves me little time to make jewelry at home. I know I need to get serious and work with any free time that I have... but y'know, life gets in the way sometimes. Come next fall, I'll be working full time AND going to school. Yep, that means no time for jewelry, except for summer breaks. I always dream of having one full year where I didn't have to work so I could take more jewelry classes and just create. But, that would mean no health insurance and no money to pay the rent. Not gonna happen. Oh well, I'm just going to keep on going.

I moved last month into a house with my boyfriend and his dog, Emma. We have a super cute house (see below) that is small but super comfy. Emma follows me everywhere I go... I think she may be in love with me! She puts her head in my lap while I tinker.... it makes my heart melt! I painted our "office" this lovely green color in the hopes to make it a creative space. I've started working on some little projects here and there. I'm making another set of the rings I made a few months ago- stack of 3... I think I like the original ones better..

B and I finally are getting settled in our new place. I set my bench up this weekend and hope to start working soon after a month or two of laziness.

Our house has 2 garden boxes and I hope to grow some herbs, tomatoes and peppers in at least one of them.

This is going to be an extra entry from time to time that is non-jewelry related.

Like most crafty people, I cannot just focus on one craft at a time. I do spend most of my time making jewelry but I like to dabble in painting, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Today I'm feeling extra antsy and finished these pillow cases. It's taking everything I've got not to go to the yarn store or to the paint store and start more projects today.

(This was the first ring I made at ACC.... the necklace is my favorite... I cannot bear to sell it.)

After the studio taught classes, then I took classes at the local community college. The instructors were all so talented and there were a lot of pretty rad students there as well. Lisa Crowder was in my class. I would have classes twice a week and could never wait for the next one to arrive so I could tinker. After 2 semesters I decided to buy my very own tools and set up my own studio at home.

I started making jewelry about 8 or 9 years ago. My first jewelry making lesson was at a local artists studio. She taught jewelry classes for 200$ (all materials included) for 6 weeks and I learned so much from her. The bottom picture is the very first ring I ever made. She was teaching me how to make an impression in silver and how to solder. The other 2 pieces were made shortly after... as you can see there was a huge learning curve.

So, today is Thanksgiving and I am at work. Because it's a holiday we're pretty slow here and I've spent quite a few hours on the internetia. My eyes are tired. I love these paintings..... I like the colors.... they would look nice in my apartment. Sarajo Frieden did the top one and Rex Ray did the bottom one. Lurvs!

I was working late last night and should have stopped... but I decided to keep tinkering and ended up making a huge mistake. I have since fixed the mistake... and maybe I can only see it ...but it's driving me crazy. (I even drilled straight through my finger... ouchy)

My dad and his wife are in Grenada right now as I type. I am so incredibly jealous and craving some saltwater and sunshine. I'm ready for my tropical vacation..... even though it's still so freakin' hot in Austin.

The earrings are made of chalcedony, labradorite & brass. The necklace is african jade, labradorite, aquamarine (not so aqua) & brass. I bought the beads at Legendary Beads on S. Lamar... they are super friendly there.

I was in Canada this past week and actually got to see fall! Yes, Autumn.... that is when the leaves change colors and there is a little crispness in the air. We went to Montreal and tooled around all over the northern part as well.... Mont Tremblant and St. Sauveur to be exact. I ate lots..... maybe too much. My favorite meal was Raclette, a Swiss dish of potatoes smothered in melted cheese.

I'm newly inspired!! I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the upcoming election or maybe it's the change in weather? who knows.... I'm just glad to be excited again. I had to buy a new regulator (yes, I had just replaced it a few weks earlier) once the momentum was back and I hope it stays. The bangles are made of Brass (in pocket :)) . I'm not sure if I'm going to put them on ETSY yet. I may hold off and make some other items first and post them all at once.

I moved in June and love my new place. Since moving I have made no jewelry because my cat, Lou, knocked over my torch and broke the same regulator I just replaced. I can't wait to get things started again but in the meantime I've been enjoying my new space and hope my animals are as happy as I am.

My torch is not working. I hope it is only a 40$ problem instead of a 200$ problem. Once I finish the pieces I'm working on I will be able to afford a new torch. I can't finish them though... because my torch is broken.

I'm also looking for a place to live, so if you know of someplace that allows a dog and a cat.... please let me know.

I have more time to work on my favorite things. I am working on something fun with my sister in the near future as well as finally working on my 'radiator' collection. My hours at work changed and it seems like I have more free time to be creative. 9 to 5 isn't so bad after all. I'm going to make more of these earrings but the liver of sulfur makes me want to gag!
